Behind the Scenes - Filming in Africa
I had the opportunity to spend 2 weeks in late January to early February 2017, to film for 2 charities: The Nashuli Conservancy in Kenya and Drop in the Bucket in Uganda. My full-time employer, CBT Nuggets, has a charity division called "NuggetLove." But instead of just writing checks to different charities around the world, we look for organizations that need our help to reach more people and spread their amazing messages. We have been working with these 2 organizations for the past year and felt they could use some video marketing help. And so I was sent across the planet to shoot these short films. Here's a quick run down of the 2 organizations I worked with:
Kenya - Nashuli Conservancy
At the southern end of Kenya sits the Masai Mara Conservancy, a giant national park where the great animals can roam free. But a majority of the land surrounding Masai Mara is now owned by foreign entities, wanting the land for their own purposes. A group of Masai natives have banded together to pool their lands into a conservancy with the purpose of protecting their land and promoting their culture for generations to come. My goal was to tell the story of the conservancy to help them fund raise and raise awareness of their unique culture and beautiful lands.
Uganda - Drop in the Bucket
One of the biggest challenges for people in Uganda is having access to clean water. Traditionally, the woman and children spend their day finding water for their survival. This leaves no time for education or pursuing other goals. Drop in the Bucket digs wells in rural communities giving the people easy access to clean water, which now allows them to pursue other dreams. My goal here was to help tell the story of the effect on people these wells have, after the well is in place. Women who used to just find water now have time to be successful business owners and are finding new financial freedom. We conducted interviews with many of these women to show how their lives have changed and the opportunities water can bring.

Sample Video - Nashuli Conservancy Preview
Upon my return, I was asked to just "throw together" a quick video with some of my favorite shots from the trip, that could be shown as part of a presentation given in Norway. I produced the following. When it was shown, funding partners immediately donated $200,000 to the Nashuli Conservancy. I love the power of video!
Behind the Scenes - Kenya
What kinds of things was I able to see and experience while filming in Kenya? I produced a video-blog during each day of my travels, highlighting what I was experiencing and our production stories.
